Feliz' 2022 Kidding
On Feb 5, 2022 I noticed that Feliz was developing a small udder. At 133 days after her breeding with Cowboy, this finding was right on schedule.
A few weeks later on the 22nd we were having a few days of nice afternoon weather (around 2pm) so Aslyn and I pulled Feliz out of the pen and gave her a spa day to get her ready for the new babies that were due in just 2 more days. After getting her all trimmed up and getting a few pictures of her now formed udder, we placed her in her kidding stall so that when her time came she would not be bothered by the others. This pen also gives moms time to bond with their kids without any interference.
Since it was so nice, I took the opportunity to reorganize the barn, get things picked up, and even talked Steve and Aslyn into cleaning the water tanks!
It didn't take but about an hour when we noticed white vaginal discharge. I have a friend who is looking to observe a few kiddings before her doe has kids this year and that isn't always possible but I texted her and she was quickly on her way!
After Tracy arrived, we had a few minutes to sit and catch up before it was apparent that Feliz was ready to start pushing. She made her spot, laid down, and started pushing. It only took a few tries and we had our 1st baby on the ground.
The next two kids came with no hesitation and although Feliz wasn't sure what to think about being a mom at first, before very long she was counting to 3 avoiding stepping on anyone and letting all of her babies nurse!
Aslyn made sure to get umbilical cords dealt with and weights on these triplets our day was finally over and our first kidding of the season was a success.
