Why would you breed to a black herdsire? If the answer is to produce a black offspring, then Malbec would be the smart choice. I have no doubt Malbec will continue the legacy of his pedigree by producing 100% black when bred to black! Not all black herd sires do that. Malbec has the deepest lineage of solid TRUE BLACK you will find. In his lineage of 22 ancestors, 18 are TRUE BLACK, 3 are grey and one fawn! Very few alpacas can boast of that much black in their pedigree!
Malbec's sire, Senor Othello had an impressive show record and was awarded 1st in Get-of- Sire at the New England Classic and 2nd in Get of Sire at the Green Mountain Spectacular. This class demonstrates his ability to produce high quality offspring a quality Malbec has also demonstrated!
Malbec has large bone and the square build you want in a herdsire. His fleece is a very bright TRUE BLACK, consistent in character, above average density, long staple and a soft handle. Our fiber mill said it was some of the best black fleece she had ever worked with to make great black yarn.
If you are looking to improve your black, grey or white spot female, Malbec has the characteristics you need to develop your color breeding program
