About Us
“Excellence is never an accident; it is the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, skillful execution and the vision to see obstacles as opportunities.” – Anonymous
Today, Pleasant Prairie Suris is one of the few alpaca farms left in the Spokane, Washington area. We have survived because we are a much different business today than when we first started. When we were first into alpacas; we were lead down a path of purchasing lower quality animals and breeding up. It didn’t take us very long to realize that was an incredibly expensive way to go about it and it was taking way too long. Our efforts were better served purchasing higher quality males and females to produce higher quality crias from the start.
This change in our business philosophy has proven to be very beneficial. Our crias are now placing in national shows, starting with the addition of our herd sire, Dior. We have since added Bahati and now we have Storm’s Fury who has won national shows and color championships. This year we have Storm’s Fury’s babies on the ground and could not be happier. He has produced some awesome cria and we are very anxious to show his babies in 2017.
Comments made about our animals by judges include, “If I had an award for luster, you would surely win!” “I opened up his fleece and found a treasure chest of luster, lock and density, wow!” “He is a fine animal.” Although Storm’s Fury has white on his head and feet, some judges place them lower in standings because they say they must have white in their fleece. A senior judge examined him twice in 6-months and announced at the latest show, “I’m here to tell you, he has no white in his fleece!” ?? We shall overcome.
So what does our success have to do with you? If you’ve always wanted to learn more about alpacas, or like to know what it takes to raise alpacas, or how much does it cost to get into raising alpacas? What does it take to show an alpaca? We can help you with all the above. We invite you to come out and visit our farm. We are not high-pressure salesmen; it is really about what you want out of your visit with us. Our experiences as new owners has given us a great insight as to how we can best mentor folks interested in entering the alpaca business. We love our animals and love to show them off. We look forward to working with you, too.
This year we have some gorgeous babies (7) and know they will show very well this year. Come out and see them and we also have a small farm store with products from Peru and our own animals. We carry sweaters, vests, scarves, gloves, socks, rugs, yarns, coats and stocking caps. We also have screened alpaca compost for sale by the bag, bucket and truckload.
Give us a call to set up an appointment for a guided tour.
Thank you,
