Who We Are
Red Barn Farms LLC is owned and operated by a husband and wife team who are totally involved in the day-to-day operation of an alpaca breeding program.
Our Beginning
After much online research, several farm visits, and talking to as many alpaca owners as possible, we decided to become alpaca owners ourselves. Our farm was once home to horses so the barn and fenced pastures were already in place, but to ensure our alpaca herd was safe from predators, we purchased a breeding pair of AKC Great Pyrenees Livestock Guardian Dogs. Modifications to the barn included adding three exterior stalls and an interior whelping pen. Red Barn Farms LLC came into being when we acquired seven alpacas from a West Virginia farm and brought them home to southeastern Virginia during an unexpected late December snow storm in 2012. In our first year of existence, we acquired more alpacas, watched the birth of RBF's first cria and first litter of pups, and came home from our first alpaca show with two second place ribbons.
Since our humble beginning, we have experienced many wonderful moments at the farm: the birth of puppies and crias, breeding and showing alpacas, and seeing improvement in the quality of our herd and fiber as evidenced by the placement of nearly every RBF alpaca in the top percentages of the AOA EPD program. Unfortunately, our Livestock Guardian Dog breeding program ended with the death of Oaklee, our breeding female, in 2018.
We love spending time with these wonderful animals and we love to talk about them! Call us at 804-725-3823 or email us at [email protected].
