Important Information 2025 Strawberry Season
August 23, 2024
Hello to all our customers...
At this time of the year, we are normally about 7 weeks out before we start planting our new strawberry plants and that's what we were planning. Unfortunately, we have received news with the following information.....several plant suppliers that usually ship strawberry tips to plug plant producers in NC, SC and VA has had a large outbreak of Neopestalotiopsis (Neo-P) and therefore cannot deliver tips. Other tip suppliers might still deliver, but it is very possible that those plants are infected with the pathogen (Neo-P) as well.
Our supplier has been in contact with us and they are canceling orders. This is a disease that quickly kills the plants and spreads. With farming there are times when you have to make some tough business decisions. At this late date, trying to find another supplier that also doesn't have infected plants and under advisement, we have made the hard decision to not plant the strawberries for the 2025 season. We feel this is truly the best decision for our fields and the soil at this time. However, we are hopeful for future strawberry seasons on our farm.
We hope you will continue to visit and support us through some of the other produce we grow and sell along with the fiber art products we make and classes that we offer. For our preschool groups that come out to visit our strawberry field, we will still have tours for you. We are currently planning activities that our little folks can do to replace the strawberry picking. Look for a future post!
In the meantime, please keep us and all the other strawberry growers in your prayers as they evaluate the best operating decision for their fields.
