About Us
Behind the Scenes at Wonder Meadow Farm
In 2015, our family traded in a postage stamp sized home for acreage on the side of a mountain at 8300 feet, and we never looked back.
MEET KARA
Kara (she/her) was flipping through one of John Fielder's Colorado photography books when she stumbled upon a photo of llamas transporting camera equipment. Never having seen a llama before, she was instantly taken in by these interesting animals. She knew right then that someday she would have llamas of her own, but everyone thought she was crazy. It was understandable since she grew up in a big city on the East coast and, besides having a dog and cat, she didn't have any experience with livestock. Chickens were her gateway animal into farm life. With lots of hard work, finding inspiring mentors, and holding fast to her dream, those three backyard hens turned into a whole menagerie of animals and experience.
Kara is a music, fiber art, and wilderness educator in Jefferson County Public Schools where she has led students on backpacking trips for over 20 years. She volunteers with Staunton State Park's Track Chair Program that supports making hiking trails accessible to everyone. She recently became a Colorado Master Gardener through the Colorado State University Extension. Kara is Wilderness First Aid and CPR certified, as well as trained in Leave No Trace.
MEET BRENT
Brent (he/him) grew up spending every summer on his grandparents' vineyard/farm in Upstate New York. With his knowledge and hands-on experience, Brent is the backbone and muscle of the farm. He can create anything from wood, and he has designed and built all of the barns, pasture fencing, and gardening areas on the property. Brent is definitely a jack of all trades! One of his favorite things is using his John Deere tractor around the farm. He's always supported Kara in her wild adventures- whether it's hiking uphill or bringing home a new animal.
Brent is a science teacher in Jefferson County Public Schools. He's known to coach almost any sport, and he is currently a high school flag football and track coach. He can also be found chauffeuring around their teenage children. Brent is First Aid and CPR certified.
