Winter Farm Days
Providence Meadow Farm is a relatively young, small farm with only 13 alpacas and some chickens. Our plan since the beginning (2019) has been to learn how to maintain well-natured alpacas producing improved offspring and excellent fiber. In 2024, we received our first banners (and many ribbons) at the Spring shows and at the end, those 4 babies came home with some stories to tell the rest of the herd! 2024 was also PMF’s first entries in the fleece competitions. In addition to ribbons, PMF Super Girl’s first cria, JessZ won the AOA IFA Grade 0 Championship. We really learned so much, thanks to mentors and friends!
As a small farm, banners are not easy to come by, the amount of gorgeous high quality animals continues to increase in this industry, and that’s a wonderful thing. As part of our business plan, we select only the best service sires for our few breedings each year. Our farm goal is to keep the herd at 15 or less for several reasons, but the best one is so we can stay close to the alpacas. We know each one of them and they bring us joy (and chores), and we just keep learning.
Looking forward to the 2025 Spring shows! We will have 6 PMF-born alpacas in the show ring, the most we’ve ever taken. We are looking forward to the fun and the chaos of it all!
Planning for a June 2025 cria from our Mary Tyler Moore who, in 2023, gave us our first banner winner in halter, Thunder Lily (lovebug). With Autumn Mist Alpaca Farm’s help, we repeated that breeding to AMAF’s The Thunder Rolls.
And then we have to wait until August to see what Black Rose and Phantasy Pharm’s Phorged Steel will produce, to say we’re exited about our 2025 crias would definitely be an understatement! Until then, everyone stay warm and happy.
Peaceful Times and Snow
The alpacas seem to like this time of year better than we do, but it is peaceful as 2025 begins and everything is dressed in white snow.
We were blessed with two healthy crias in September of 2024. Amidala’s Skywalker is handsome, smart and quickly growing, almost 70lbs! His face is beautiful and so is his fiber. Little Lucie’s first cria, Minka (with the million dollar legs) is a very pretty girl and has quite the personality! Her fleece is gorgeous and so soft. Neither were shorn, so they should look crazy by the time show season begins!
God has been good to us, we continue to be so thankful for this farm!
Blessings to all for the New Year.
