Our Herd
We currently raise a herd of around 60 yak. Our yaks are not pets. They roam free on our 640 acres of mountainous meadows, and rocky terrain which reduces stress on the animals caused by yaks raised in corals or confined fenced in spaces. Our focus is on quality!
All Natural-Grass Fed
We feed our yak a diet of native grasses that grow in mountain pastures located at 8000 feet elevation on the ranch , April- October in Taos, New Mexico. We supplement them with 1st and 2nd cut 70/30 of grass alfalfa mix grow in Southern Colorado and delivered to the ranch. We know that high quality feed yields healthy, happy animals and better meat, milk, and fiber.
Yak steaks are Juicier and more flavorful.
Yak is a delicious, primitive red meat alternative to beef. Similar in taste to quality grass fed beef and bison, yak meat has a delicate, sweet flavor. It consistently wins in taste tests over beef and is juicier than the meat of game animals, without the gamey flavor. We can wet age to cure our meats as well.
Because of a high myoglobin level in the cells, yak meat has a darker red pigment than many other red meats.
Highly nutritious and lean, yak is an excellent option for people who are looking to diversify their diet, have sensitivities to other red meats, or simply want a lean, nutrient-rich protein source which is high in Omega 3's.
