Welcome to Gemini Farm!
Back in 2006, our farm started a miniature llama business, which flourished for many years. While we still love llamas, we decided to switch our focus to alpacas in 2023, as we love the fiber traits of the alpacas & wanted an even smaller animal to produce it. So, alpacas met that criteria!
We have started with three female alpacas, but two are due to deliver any day, so we will soon increase our herd to 5. Keep an eye on our pages to watch for pictures of the new babies! We will continue to add superior genetics to our herd to able to produce alpacas with great conformation and quality fiber. Please check our fiber and yarn sales on Etsy at Gemini Yarn and Crafts!
Although we no longer breed llamas, we have four currently residing on our farm, so will see them occasionally in our photos. We have two llamas pasturing with our alpacas and two with our boer goats. We discovered during our llama years that they are super skilled at protecting livestock from predators. More than once we witnessed them actively protecting sheep from coyotes. They would not leave an area where a coyote was present and would scare them away with their alarm call and protective stance. They are known to kill unwary coyotes that choose not slink away, by using their front legs as a jackhammer. Look out all coyotes!
At the same time we added alpacas to our farm, we converted our prior sheep operation to Boer goats. The goats have a great disposition and a strong market exists for meat goats of which the Boer breed is king. Also, our kids and grandkids kids love the alpacas and the goats, especially the crias and kids that are born in the spring.
We also have started raising Pilgrim Geese as they help protect both our chickens and get along well with the goats. We discovered last year that they seem to be the gentlest of the goose breeds. Though I will say, when the female is laying on eggs, the gander is very protective, even from their caregiver!. That's OK with us, as we know he'll soon keep the little goslings safe.
Please enjoy perusing our pages & please let us know if you have any questions!
Llamas and Alpacas, and from sheep to goats!
Yes, we've made some changes to our farm over time. The beautiful fiber and small stature of alpacas eventually won us over from raising llamas. And the Boer goats won out over the sheep.
So, our products will be fiber- roving and yarn; Alpacas, Llamas and Boer goats! We also have a breeding pair of Pilgrim geese, but for now, all offspring have been sold for 2024. Next spring we expect another hatching.
Let us know what you are looking for. Perhaps we have it available now, or maybe we will in the future!
