Creating From Alpaca
Felted soaps
I am an Artist and have always worked with clay, watercolor, pastel and acrylic mediums but I had never created with alpaca fiber until September of 2012 when I was gifted my first two female alpacas. I took many classes through local alpaca organization’s and I was influenced by other fiber people in my life. I’ve taken Nuno Felting classes, Felting hats, alpaca husbandry courses and even how to birth alpacas ! Not to mention the 8 years I volunteered at the Carolina Alpaca Celebration and the CAC Photo Contest. I have even shown a few of my alpacas at the CAC shows where I learned what I needed to learn in improving my herd. There were Spin Off’s, fiber art contest,Fleece shows and Cottage fleece shows I’ve entered through Alpaca Owners Association. Our alpacas have collected quiet a few ribbons over the years. Now to master creating on my first Ashford Spinning wheel.
I love to wet felt this yummy fiber. It is therapeutic and relaxing working with Alpaca. I felt Soaps, Dryer Balls, scarfs, Hats, and Wine Bottle covers as far learned to dye their fleece with Kool-aid! This has been a 8 year journey and growing. As I type this I am surrounded by my girl alpacas. They are very curious creatures by nature.
I and my Paca hubby Tom love to take our alpacas to Events to educate others about why we have fiber animals. This is truly an adventure of the Soul & Heart. Alpacas have a way of healing one from the inside out.
