Reflections on luck
This past Sunday was St Patrick's Day. This holiday makes me think about LUCK.
I'm not one to believe all that much in luck, I'm more of the hard work gets results type, but the holiday made me think...
I'm so lucky to know alpacas.
Alpacas introduced me to my husband.
My children get to grow up on a farm.
We get to share our life with gentle animals...
I realize how lucky I am every day, but sometimes, I forget to appreciate how the alpaca has had such an impact on my life. It was LUCK that I stumbled upon my first alpaca encounter. I had a bad day, (I was a high school teacher, it happens A LOT!) I took a drive, and saw a strange looking animal... I slowed my car, and the farm owner waved at me to come into the driveway.
According to Wikipedia (ha) "Luck or chance is fortune (whether bad or good) which occurs beyond one's control, without regard to one's will, intention, or desired result." I consider it good luck that this woman took the time to talk to me about her alpacas. I went home that evening and researched these interesting creatures. I decided that night that I wanted to raise alpacas. But- I lived in a condominium. Not exactly ideal for grazing alpacas.
I did more research and learned about boarding alpacas, and was LUCKY to find a farm nearby where I could board and visit and learn... I boarded for about two years, but then learned the farm owners were moving to another state. Bad luck? NO. They suggested a farm for me to move my animals and continue to board them...and then the real LUCK...
more later... baby James just woke up!!
