Yak Fiber
Many considerations for quality yak fiber

Yak fiber is becoming very popular because it is known to be better than cashmere. A "good fiber" yak is not necessarily a "super woolly" yak. The long hair is called "guard hair" on a yak. The long guard hair is not used in the yak down fiber for spinning fine fiber. The long guard hair is good for spinning and making tents and rope and for some rugs but not for fine down yak fiber. Therefore, you need to brush out the winter coat of the yak each spring starting about in March. Some quality yak fiber for spinning has sold for as much as $40 an ounce.
