— The Openherd Team
The story of creating alpaca yarn is a long one. It involves caring for the alpacas day in and day out, and then shearing each one in the spring. We then take the raw fiber to a mill where there is more work involved. The fiber is cleaned, sorted, de-haired, picked, carded, made into rovings and then spun. (I am sure I have forgotten some of the steps. Anyway, this year's yarn is absolutely gorgeous and silky soft!
