Making a Felt Banner

Alpacas from MaRS is proud to be part of the Alpaca program for Snohomish County 4-H! My group of young people did an awesome job creating this beautiful felted banner to hang at events.

Laying out the base layers of fleece. This is the second layer, the first was laid out going the other direction across the piece.

Third and final layer with a bit of whimsy

Final touches before placing tulle on top for pre-felting

Using hot water and soap to start the felting

Using Pedro's EZ Roller Felting Machine to do all the muscle work.

The pre-felt is rolled up between layers of bubble wrap and secured with ties or rubber bands

Details are needle felted into the finished felt sheet

Animals are outlined with alpaca yarn and filled with alpaca and angora carded fleece

Working on the letters and animals using alpaca yarn with alpaca and angora carded fleece

Banner is finished!

Banner applied to velvet backing and hung up for display at Alpacapalooza!

Making slight adjustments between runs on the felting machine.

Felt drying after being on the felting machine and shocked with hot and cold water in the sink.
