We are excited to meet you and have you stay at our farm. Here is some information that may make your arrival easier.
Depending on the size of your rig, we have a stone pad in front of a garage building at our property. Smaller rigs may be able to negotiate into a grassy area closer to the alpacas, but it is down a small slope and will require backing in or backing out. Most Class C & B rigs can do this as well as small pull behinds.
Here is a map for making your arrival easier with printed directions below.
In almost all cases, turning off Rt.30 onto Labott Rd. is the best way to approach our farm and parking area.
Directions for finding our farm:
From the South Rt 83: Take the Middletown Road Exit in Maryland. Your GPS should get you through the country. After going round the round-about in Spring Grove, take Roth Church Road directly to our farm. When you come to the Y in the road about 2.5 miles after the circle, you will take the left part of the Y and you can follow the "From all directions"
below.
If you should make it into PA on Rt. 83 DO NOT get off at the Glen Rock exit. It will take you on a route where there is a 11'1" bridge and we all know that's not good. You can continue on 83 to Rt 30 in York and then follow "From the East"
From the South Rt 15 or 81: Get to Route 30 and then follow from the West.
From the North: Find your way to Rt. 30 and then follow directions from the West or from the East.
From the West: On Rt. 30, go past our road (Roth Church) and take a R onto Labott Rd. Continue following directions "from Labott"
From the East: On Rt. 30, turn L on Labott Road - it is the road right after the York Airport.
From Labott: There is a very large gray building for Iron Stag Crane Service on the corner of Labott and Rt. 30. Take Labott to the stop sign and make the hard right.
From all directions: In about 1/4 mile, you will see a pond and then 2 buildings on the right. The stone pad is just beyond the 2nd building. Note that Verizon in their infinite wisdom, placed a phone box right in the middle of that area by
the road making it necessary for larger rigs to go beyond it and back into the stone space. Smaller rigs can get in between the building and the box. Thank you Verizon. Unless we've arranged for you to arrive when we are at work or not at the farm, please give us a call / text when you get to Labott Rd. and we can meet you at the parking area to help you back in and watch for cars coming up the road. A heads up anytime during the day of arrival with your anticipated (general) arrival time will help as well.
I am happy to show you around the farm and introduce you to the animals when you arrive, or when you are set up and relaxed. Neal and I both work away from the farm so you may have some time to enjoy yourselves before we arrive. We welcome your pets but they should remain leashed as you will be fairly close to a road. I have 2 dogs of my own who are slightly territorial regarding other dogs, but absolutely LOVE all humans. They will stay on our side of the road and won't bother you.
We have a trail around the property that starts at the back of our pond and goes behind the alpaca pastures and then out to the wide grassy area around the front of our pastures by the road. It's about 3/4 of a mile and great for the dogs (and humans) to get out and stretch. The alpacas will be super observant if you do have dogs with you - they are by nature afraid of dogs, so please try to keep the dogs from barking or lunging at the fence. Under no circumstances should dogs be allowed
into the pastures with the alpacas.
There is a 30 amp electric service at the garage where you most likely will be parked. We ask a donation of $10/day or whatever you feel is appropriate to use it during your stay.
My cell # is 717.891.8060. Please call/text when you are within an hour.
