Alpacas
Why do Alpacas make wonderful additions to your family?
Xena and Bronson
Because alpacas are not large (females are usually around 150 pounds, and males average 175), they are easily handled, even by young children.
Easy to care for, they don’t require a great deal of room or feed, making them one of the most cost-effective livestock animals to own. They offer the added benefit of helping you to
‘green’ your lifestyle by creating a ‘circle of sustainability’ (see Sustainable Farming with Alpacas page) which includes keeping weeds to a minimum, thus improving fire safety on your property, providing manure which composts into a superior organic fertilizer for your garden, and luxurious fiber which can be used to create many lovely items.
At Sierra Rose Alpacas, most of our alpacas have been through a training program designed to ensure their contribution as a lovely member of your family, with whom you’ll be thrilled for many years to come. Often, our alpacas are sold as a small herd (3-5) to join their new home and become a critical part of young families whose children grow up responsible and compassionate. We have enjoyed helping people of all ages, who simply love alpacas and want a small herd of their own, get started realizing their dream of alpaca ownership. While others are interested in forming an alpaca business, and want to get off on the right foot with our support.
Though alpacas are livestock, they also make wonderful pets.
We also offer instruction and training for our 'new to Alpacas' families, to ensure you get off to a great start with your Alpacas.
Ready to learn more about how Alpacas might join your family? We'd love to show you around our farm, and introduce you to Alpacas just like Magnolia and her friends, who are waiting for their own perfect family. Call for an appointment to visit us and meet the herd!
