Welcome to Dusty Road Alpacas
Dusty Road Alpacas finished 5th in the nation for alpaca medium sized new breeders in the Alpaca Owners Association Hi Point competition based on show results over the past year!
We are an eighty-acre ranch established in 2017 on the wind turbine dotted, high plains (6700 feet) of Calhan, Colorado, We are first time ranchers raising Huacaya Alpaca with three simple goals:
Manage and maintain a healthy herd leveraging the relatively immature, but ever growing Alpaca best practices body of knowledge
A focus on genetics in our breeding program, as evidenced by demonstrable Huacaya conformation, improved generational fiber metrics, and healthy animals.
Attaining profitability through fiber operations, herd management and ranch operation improvement techniques.
We currently have 9 Alpaca, two dozen chickens and Guinea Hens, one rescue donkey, 2 horses and two livestock guardian dogs (Pyrenees.)

Dusty Road Alpacas Sunset!
We made the difficult decision and have begun the process of selling our animals. The immediate question is why? And the plain truth of the matter is health issues have forced us to face the reality that it is time to close out this chapter of our lives and move on at a slower pace in a lower place (altitude.)
We've had a great run these 6 years that started with delivery of Hinny, Halo and Paloma on 30 Aug 2017. Albeit, disrupted by a full year for COVID and also the reality of a near doubling of costs for the staples of ranch life.
We have third generation improvements throughout our herd, influenced by legendary genetics from across the spectrum of the alpaca community. We have a range of quality from a fiber and conformance perspective that includes top placing show animals with top-notch fiber metrics, all registered with Alpaca Owners Association (AOA.) We also have quality animals that will be suitable for 4-H and children's performance events that are an increasing focus at both the Alpaca Affiliate level (such as Alpaca Breeder's of the Rockies,) as well as the national level with AOA.
We will be selling at auction and in packages or giving away our alpacas to good homes in the coming weeks and months. Pricing will be based on quality but with the reality that we are open to reasonable offers in consideration that we are closing down operations on our ranch when we finish.
Regards,
Cindy and Mark
