Raising alpacas has been one of the greatest experiences in Myndee's life. Unfortunately personal circumstances changed and she left her previous farm of over 140 animals. With almost 10 years experience it was just too difficult to get out entirely, hence Zinnia Fields was created. It was named for the matriarch of the family, Grandma Bernie, who encouraged everyone to do what they love most. Her favorite flower was a red zinnia. Lauree, Myndee's mom, always loved helping with the alpacas, even on those exhausting ultrasound and shearing days. She has applied her previous experience with cattle and love for animals to assist in raising alpacas.
Zinnia Field's is dedicated to raising light and white alpacas with luxuriously soft fiber. The kind of fleece you just want to lay in or rub on your cheek. With that goal in mind we set out to breed our suris for low micron's that sustain fineness with age, extremely low standard deviation, and low scale height for extreme luster. We will be using EPD's, histogram's and biopsies to set goals and measure our progress. We also will use halter and fleece shows to gauge our progress with the national herd. We intend to stay small focusing on quality not quantity.
We are aiming for great fiber first of all but do not count out great conformation as equally important. As a livestock focused business our herd needs to be made of a sound and hardy foundation. That is another reason we value halter shows and will continue to compete. Plus who can't love the adorable look of a stylish suri!
