Neogen Results
Last November, I sent 11 blood samples to the Neogen Lab for the Colour Coat Tests. Our 3 herdsires were tested to have a better understanding of what they produce, along with 8 females whose colour/production history were curious…
Here are our 11 results:
Averegan’s Magnus Ee Aa1
Tiger Lily Conopa’s Smoak EE Aa2
Alpacajoy Excelsior Ee AA
Dame Allure du DNA ee a2a3
Ariya Pure Reserve’s Cup Cake Ee a3a3
Miss Andean Shadow du DNA Ee a1a3
Miss Anita du DNA EE AA
Miss Alouette du DNA Ee a2a3
Miss Aloha Moonshine du DNA Ee a1a2
Miss Aucean Tides du DNA Ee AA
Miss Amitié du DNA Ee AA
As expected, Magnus has the code to produce every colours – which he already does – and Smoak will never produce light coloured progeny.
I’m slightly baffled to see that 4 alpacas are genotypically Black – that’s a lot for a program not breeding for Blacks! All of them come from ARA Chananza lines. I can assume our beloved old man was a fully diluted black (ee aa)….
My biggest surprise came from our light herdsire Excelsior. His results showed that he has only 1 dilution allele and should produce colour very often! His daughter Amitié has the exact same results, meaning we’ll work with her for colour when she’ll come of age. That’s exiting!
Excelsior and Amitié results are just a proof that we should investigate further our herd’s colours and send more blood samples to the lab. Stay tuned!
