Rocky's Story
Outstanding Dreams Rocky Balboa
Getting off to a rocky start and being a fighter earned Rocky his name.
Rocky had sepsis at birth and was severely compromised. Weak and unable to stand or nurse, we knew intervention was needed to save him.
Thanks to our skilled vet,Dr Callahan, and our being prepared with plasma and colostrum on hand, Rocky bounced back.
At the time Dr Callahan administered the plasma, Rocky was in bad shape. My assesment was that he was close to death as any animal I've ever seen that didn't end up dying.
I wouldn't give up and neither would he. I kept giving him colostrum from a little 3 cc syringe and trying to help him stand on his own.
It was long day!
Gradually, Rocky gained strength and by the end of the day, was making enough progress that I began to have a sliver of hope. I'll tell you, I did a lot of praying that night.
Up early and afraid of what awaited me in the barn, I brought him some more warm colostrum.
To my relief, Rocky was awake and alert. He stood up on his own, went over to his mom and started nursing!
He is a fighter with the will to live.
Over the following weeks and months, Rocky continued gaining strength.
Right from the start, I felt his fleece was pretty special. Rocky recently earned two Reserve Champion banners and positive comments from two well respected judges.
While getting off to rocky start, Rocky's future is bright and we look forward to the day when his offspring grace our fields.
