2024 Updates
Thunder loves to give kisses
Wow, I don't know where the time goes lately. Seems like we had our last cria of the year a few days ago but no. Sawdust's Albizia (AKA Moose) was born 10/4/23 - 10 days after Sawdust's Tulip. Moose is about twice the size of miss Tulip. Linden (born 5/12/23) and Moose have joined the yearling-2 year old boys now.
We are again getting ready to take a few boys to a show. This time Great Western Alpaca Show and the Rocky Mountain Alpaca Showcase will be in Cheyenne, WY on May 3-5, 2024. So we will leave home on May 1 to arrive in Cheyenne by the 2nd for check in. We will be taking Sawdust's Albizia, Sawdust's Ceiba, Sawdust's Murwiti, Sawdust's Linden and Sawdust's Tabasco. They will all be entered into 3 separate events (walking fleece, halter for GWAS, halter for RMAS). 3 will be entered into an event called GET OF SIRE which requires 3 alpacas of any age with the same sire, but different moms. Three will also be entered into Breeders Best . This event requires that the 3 alpacas can be any age , male or female, any color as long as all three moms were owned and bred by the person entering the alpacas. Ceiba, Linden and Tabasco were at last year's GWAS/RMAS Show.
Our 42 alpacas keep us on our toes for sure. I love to watch them in the a.m. The girls pens are closer to the street. They have access via a runway to go from their pens up to the barn. They will all be in their pens. But the minute Glenn opens the door in the a.m., the girls all head to the barn to watch him load the hay into the cart, fill the mineral pellet buckets, etc. Then they follow him from the barn back to their pens, munching on the hay or trying to get to the pellets before the pellets go into their trays in their shelters. The boys watch this whole procedure from their side of the runway.
We are expecting family from KY in April for a few days. My family has only been together for emergencys and final goodbyes the last 5 years. So it will be great to have a fun time. I am looking forward to their visit.
We have been very slow with our visitors, both locally and Harvest Hosts. The weather in our part of the country has not been kind to travelers. So we have been using the time to remodel a couple rooms in our house. What was once our spare bedroom is now the office and the spare bedroom is in the old office space.
We have some new products in the store. Norlander Socks are amazing. The new alpaca vests are a charcoal gray color and very nice. Queen size bed blankets of 100% alpaca are so soft and warm. Come check them out or order online.
