So much is happening!!
Wow! We sure have a lot to catch up on over the past few months!
We had a great experience participating in our first 2 alpaca shows ever--PAOBA/MABA and MAPACA in April 2021. We decided to become a sponsor for both shows as a way to get our name out there, so people in the alpaca community know that we are here! We are overwhelmed at the great response we have received! Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to look at our pages and our animals. We are so happy to be part of this community and proud of what we have accomplished in just a short time. We have a lot to learn, but the positive feedback we have received lets us know that we are doing some things right!
2020 was a really big herd-building year for us. We went looking for the best animals we could afford at the time and we were able to put together a solid group of females to build on. In the fall of 2020, we decided to take advantage of a couple of opportunities that came our way. Realizing that we needed some diverse herdsire genetics in order to advance our plans for our herd, we purchased several males. We were fortunate to obtain 2 light colored herdsires with top 1% EPD stats, both with respectable densities on biopsy---Sammy and Lazaro. Both of these males are outstanding in their own right. Lazaro is a proven male who passes on not only a beautiful suri phenotype, luster and density, but his crias also have the nicest temperaments. Sammy is a wonderfully dense boy with great luster and lock structure. His regrowth over 2020-2021 was just amazing. He is unproven as of yet as a 3 year old, but we have plans to change that in 2021!
At the end of 2020, another great opportunity fell into our laps..so to speak. While looking at a stellar black female to add to our herd, we had the good fortune to acquire Cinch of Pines Edge, who just happened to be on the east coast doing some work south of us. Cinch is a National Color Champion and has very nice density and lustrous fleece. After his recent shearing in June 2021, Cinch looks and feels like velvet. He still has nicely wrinkled skin up his neck and appears to be very dense over the rest of his body. We plan to have him biopsied this summer. Cinch was proven when he arrived in November 2020, and he has already settled 2 of our females so far. We are really looking forward to his crias in 2022!!!
Over the winter of 2020/2021, MORE good fortune found us as we had the opportunity to purchase WRSR Maxx Macgyver from Silken Suri Ranch. This male was outstanding in his day and even at his current age, we feel he was worth the investment to try to re-create more of his beautiful offspring. Maxx arrived on June 1st and he is already getting put to work. We are planning several breedings with Maxx in 2021 and we feel that he has the ability to produce some great crias for us! Maxx is still very spry at the age of 13 and such a joy to handle. He is a super sweet male who loves people, but he loves the ladies more...he gets down to business like the professional he is when called upon!
