Man Its a Hot One....
Tandy getting a drink
"Like seven inches from the midday sun" (Carlos Santana, "Smooth")
Northern Michigan is NOT supposed to have day after day of high 80's and 90 degrees with skin slick from humidity. The herd is feeling the heat also. They are expert at squeezing into the areas of shade and moving when it does. Eventually, the smart girls will go in the barn and lay in front of the fans. Even the new crias are not running around as much, which must be very hard for them. :)
It truly is a lazy summer day for them. A day long siesta. We keep the water buckets filled and change the water so that it is nice and cold. Tandy knows just how she likes it, straight from the source. Amazon, one of our experienced moms is slightly overdue, and Chili Pepper is 30 days from her due date. We are watching them carefully, not stressing them anymore than the weather is already doing and praying for healthy babies and moms.
Breeding will just have to wait until cooler weather sets in and everyone is more prepared and comfortable.
Us humans are not that smart.
Dave just got the tractor back so he's mowing. I suggested he wait until the heat of day is done. but he can't stand looking at grass he can certainly see growing. I am watering the garden, and not minding when I get wet. And the kids are doing their chores. We work with hats on and water bottles nearby, but we can rest when needed.
I hope you are all staying cool, drinking enough water and resting when needed.
Happy 4th of July to all!!
