Merida
Merida is the first cria born to Memphis (our dark Gold Legend daughter) and our main herdsire, Xanadu P. Resolute. She was the first cria born this year and the only one we didn't get to see born. We were at our cottage and missed the birth by about 20 minutes. Memphis has been a great mommy lots of milk very attentive, yet still lets us check her baby and weigh her. Merida is sweet, born with a beautiful head style, she is not as dark as I had hoped but her fleece is very organized, fine and showing early signs of character. She was born with pretty wonky little ears, we taped them with vet wrap for a couple days and they look just fine now. We have been shearing some of our crias the past couple years, we are going to be shearing more as we go. Memphis herself had almost 8 inches of fleece by shearing time and actually is in the top 1% EPD for staple length and fleece weight. With this in mind we sheared her at about 2 weeks old. When we shear cria's of first time moms, we shear them on one side, while mom watches at a safe distance and then return the cria to nurse and bond with mom, then we shear the other half, just to ensure that mom doesn't reject her little on.
Merida is growing well and has the same sweet temperament as her mom. We liked this combo so much that we repeated it for 2015.
Here are a few pics or Merida as she has grown this past year. As you can see she is a stunner
