I am crazy to have gotten a SECOND Saanen buck this year... I only have TWO Guernsey does to breed...
But I'd already reserved Winner when I got the opportunity to buy Prince, and I just could NOT resist. He is out of a bloodline that I fell in love with many years ago, that I thought was lost to me forever.
Long story will be at the bottom, but the short is, these bloodlines are just sensational from top to bottom...
The first picture is of Prince's dam (absolutely incredible doe), but the rest will be of his sire's bloodlines, which are the ones I fell in love with. I tried to order and label the pictures in a way that makes sense if you view/read them in order, but if anything is confusing (or you'd like even more photos!!) just shoot me a message.
I wanted to use Prince this year, but he was a premie baby and is a slow starter. When my girls started going into heat, he wasn't able to extend yet. So Winner got the girls this year! Prince will get to cover Laci in January though, and those should be some knockout kids!
Long story:
In 2018 I was looking for a Saanen buck, and found a really nice herd in Idaho. Camille had a lot of lovely goats, but there was always one goat in the extended pedigree that I didn't like. After weeks of looking through all of her goats, one bloodline was a clear winner. Titania (granddam), Tinuviel (dam), and Tintalle/Timandra (full sisters) were ALL beautiful. Nothing I didn't like, even 3 generations back...
I got a buckling from Timandra and Yankee Doodle (whose dam produced a staggering 5200lb of milk in 305 days). I used him on a few of my does, then loaned him to a friend, where he died. I still have 2 of his granddaughters, but it's just not enough... So when I got Turquoise (Guernsey) for the purpose of breeding her Saanen to create my new herd sire, I knew I wanted to find those same genetics again.
Unfortunately Titania and Tinuviel were retired, Timandra was sold, and Tintalle had passed away.
Just when I thought I was completely out of luck and reserved a different buck, I got a lead! A buck out of Tintalle and Yankee Doodle (named Tinman) was purchased by a dairy in Wisconsin, and they had a transporter friend headed to Washington in a couple months! So of course I HAD to get a Tinman son... I just had to!
And golly is he a cutie....
