We call Adonis Donnie and we couldn't be happier with the first male that was born to us. He has a very, very calm personality which he normally puts out on his offspring. The bone on this guy is staggering. I've actually never seen another alpaca with as large a bone. Recently, Jeff was going to meet one of Donnie's offspring who was in a pen with several others. Jeff just looked at the feet to correctly guess which one was his! Incidently, that animal won 2 blues in 3 shows as a juvey. The first for that farm and his maternal siblings. Donnie improves the fleece remarkably. Even though he is dark, he puts out finer fleece on whites that have higher micron siblings from both white parents.
Here are some facts for helping you make your breeding/purchase decision:
28 registered cria as of 4/15/13
20 of those have shown (some are still too young, at farms that don't show, etc..)
Of the 20 that showed they brought home at least 45 ribbons that were either CC/RCC (4), Blue(18), Red(23)
A little over 50% of his shown offspring brought home at least 1 Blue Ribbon! 75% brought home at least 1 red-amazing odds. These include offspring from dams that didn't have other ribbon winners.
68% of cria were darker than dam. 7 cria were brown or black from white dams!
He has been bred to 4 grays (some more than once). 3 of 4 made grey. The other made TB (she has TB sire and he has lots of black in his pedigree)
At age 9 Donnie was maintaining a micron of 26.7 which is incredible for a working black male of that age! Considering the low microns and density he puts out, he could improve your whole herd for this low price. He will also put out his friendly and calm personality onto his cria. You really can't go wrong with this guy.
