Description
Opie is a beautiful true black suri. We consider him a non-breeder because he is overly friendly. He was our only cria the year he was born and since he didn’t have friends he tried to bond with us. We tried everything including carrying frisbees to bob his nose, but he never learned to read social cues from us or the other alpacas. This appears to be a hereditary behavior, his mom was removed from our breeding program because she is also extremely friendly as were her other crias. Opie is the only one who has continued this behavior. He will get in your face when you are in the pen with him. He is super friendly when you come up to the fence. He walks very well on a lead line and is easy to catch. We have considered neutering him, but our vet doesn’t think it will help since the behavior was present since birth. He would be best in a situation where he does not interact with people too much other than over a fence.
