Marquis is a striking, elegant, Medium Silver Grey male that has nice grey lineage both sides of his pedigree. His dam is a MAPACA champion by Platinum Marquis and his sire is twice Futurity Champion and AOBA champion with "too numerous to count" champion offspring, WWR Prince Greystone who has such a beautiful head!! Do an internet search for pictures to fully appreciate both Platinum in his full fleece and Prince Greystone. Two superior grey lines come together in this guy!
Marquis, has a beautiful medium silver grey blanket, and an adorable face besides being a tall male (Platinum Marquis line is tall), he has moderate density and luster, with a straight, round, twisting lock. He is a nicely built at 175+ pounds with nice luster and fineness - I think the nicest silver grey suri fleeces we have had our hands on. We had a fleece evaluator look at this last fleece and they noted majority of low to mid 20's micron - breeding and coming up on 5 years old. His 2018 histogram affirmed that micron with better uniformity a 5.3 SD - We are pleased!
Marquis had a show career in which he took 4 Blue Ribbons. First place with judge commenting that his lovely twisted locks were already "turning themselves into yarn". Speaking of yarn we sent his fleece off to a hand-spinner along with others and they asked if we had anymore that his fleece as it was their favorite to work with!
We were super excited to have been able to purchase the dam that was due with his first cria. That cria turned out to be a true dazzler! Not just a beautiful color but fleece with high luster, fine with fine secondary fibers coming in noted. In fact she took a first place in walking fleece at California Classic with her uniform color, great luster & super fine micron (well under 18 AFD). The judge literally lifted up her fleece and said oh my! She also took a 2nd place in a very competitive grey halter being the youngest in the class both at the California Classic and Great Western Alpaca shows. We think even more important than a males own traits are the traits that the male passes. He produced 4 silver grey and a few beautiful maroon from various colored dams ranging from brown to fawn. Besides beautiful, they have fine fleece and friendly dispositions.
