Description
Genetics:
His sire, Sleeping Monk Farm Peruvian All-Star, is the product of the crossing of two imported Accoyo lines, Royal Fawn and Cordero, combined with Alianza and Sollocota genetics. All-Star's first cria were born at UMASS in 2010 and according to Steve Purdy, the Director of the UMASS Camelid Program, they are extremely nice!
His dam, Avalon’s Laurel Rose, has been awarded a Blue Ribbon in every show she has been entered in. She has won under Maggie Krieger, Jude Anderson, Anthony Stachowski, and Kristin Burhmann. At the North American Alpaca Show in 2003, Jude Anderson's comments about Rosie were so complimentary that Maggie Krieger came out of her ring to check her out!
His grandsire, AFA Royal Peruvian Aristocrat, in 1997 at his first show everyone that opened his fleece, including the judge, could only catch their breath and exclaim, "WOW!”. His bright, crimpy, light fawn fleece was arranged in little locks that were unlike anything people had seen before. Many of his offspring have won, and continue to win, blue ribbons and color championships!
His grandsire is also, Avalon’s Peruvian Whirlwind, he carries the genetics of 3Peruvian Cordero 6002, an exceptional full Accoyo herdsire. Shearer, Matt Best, formerly of Magical Farms, and his wife Jozi, who both see plenty of nice fiber, were very impressed to see Whirlwind carry exceptional fiber "even into his topknot" at over 6 years old!
His great grandsire, PPPeruvian Royal Fawn, is a full Accoyo male with a history of passing on his fine-fibered genetics to his 406 offspring. Consistent show winners and high sellers, his progeny boast 108 known champions and 329 blue ribbons in every solid color group. Hand selected by the late Dr. Jim Vickers, he is the only light fawn Accoyo ever exported from Don Julio Barreda’s herd. According to Julio Barreda, he ranked as one better than he had ever produced at Estancia Accoyo in Peru. He was the 1999 and 2000 "Get-of-Sire" winner at the AOBA National Show and record breaking highest selling male in alpaca history in October 2005 at $600,000.
His great grandsire is also, AFA Peruvian Nevar, is a 1/2 Accoyo male who has retained his fiber fineness. At his age, this result places Nevar in the company of some of the most respected white herdsires in the country!
His great granddam, PPPeruvian Sonoma 5042, originated from the Sollocoto region. She is one of Avalon Farm's very best foundation females!
