El Capitan is a CLASSIC dark silver gray macho out of Peruvian White Thunder (the son of El Nino). Classic grey is a pattern, not like Modern grey which is a solid animals with the grey or white fibers throughout the entire fleece. El Capitan is a half brother to MANY MANY Color Champion alpacas produced by White Thunder, including, Vintage MacBeth who is for sale this weekend at the Priority auction in Las Vegas. Let me tell you a bit about El Capitan. He is a medium sized alpaca, much like his sire, so bigger than El Nino was... but certainly not a giant. He has a sweet dispositon so far, but from my 10 years experience with these animals, the males can change temperment as they come into their breeding hormones. But for now, he is very sweet and easy for me to handle. His fleece is VERY special. It is a long staple of at least 3-4 inches already (Jan 2013). The staples are bundled and separate with ease showing how his density and fineness work together in fleece growth. He is extremely fine which is of the utmost importance in my breeding program over the years I have been in this business. I care more for fineness, and working to breed alpacas that can carry fineness well into adulthood, than any other trait outside of good general conformation of the basic alpaca phenotype. His blanket is very dense also, showing me he is carrying a large fleece weight, which is important also allowing me to make more money off his fiber than those with lighter fleece weights. So having alot of very fine fleece... that is my goal and El Capitan has acheived that. He is covered with fleece from head to toe, and has a pretty full face although not as full as Teddy Bear (also a White Thunder offspring). El Capitan is a very handsome male, poised to produce grey and black with improved fleece characteristics.
