One of our male alpacas had a successful "connection" with a female yesterday. Today another female cushed immediatley and the male attempted to do his thing but could not hit the mark. Any suggestions to improve this?

Males that are new to breeding often get so excited that they cannot seem to "hit the target". It is not unusual for this to happen on the next try after a successful first breeding as in this case. It also is not unusual for this to happen to a more experienced male on the first breeding after a long layoff. I would separate the pair and try again in a few hours or the next day. Some folks like to guide the male manually, but a young male can become dependent on this and then you have to help him every time. I would rather use a bit of time and patience at the beginning of the breeding career.
