Year In Review
Looking back on the past year, we are so proud of our accomplishments and the progress we've made in our breeding program. We have enjoyed our most successful show season ever. Having limited our breedings last year, we had just 3 alpacas in our show string and finished the year with each of them garnering either a championship or reserve championship, along with a combined total of 12 Blue Ribbons under 6 different judges!
While show ribbons are nice - we're also very pleased with the histograms from 2012. We are seeing continued improvement with regard to both micron and uniformity as a result of our careful breeding decisions, confirming the results we have experienced in the show ring!
Most importantly we are seeing our older alpacas retaining their fineness, uniformity and exceptional staple growth well into adulthood!

Breeding award winning, elegant suri alpacas since 1999, Prairie Lake Alpacas is a small farm specializing in whites - the staple of a commercial fiber industry. As the alpaca industry matures, exceptional white alpacas will be in demand for their high luster, fine fleece which can easily be dyed an array of beautiful colors.
We can provide some of the best bloodlines in this country as we carefully match fiber characteristics to produce healthy, vigorous crias without regard to country of origin. With each new generation, we strive to create density, exceptional regrowth, luster and fineness that lasts well into adulthood. Every breeder should be looking toward the future of the alpaca industry when purchasing breeding stock and should include a few nice whites when making their purchase decisions!
Although white is our specialty, we try to keep 2 or 3 colorful females just to add a little variety! We were lucky to get three beautiful female crias in our 2012 cria crop - one white, one dark fawn and one medium fawn. If not sold before breeding age, we will add these colorful girls to our breeding program! All three females look to be great show prospects and we can't wait to see how they do in 2013!
