| Are we ever excited by our latest addition to our foundation females, Casanova's Dorianna, who hails from a fabulous breeding program in NYS, Full Circle Farm Alpacas. Dori is a superb, proven dam. Her male offspring are elite, and stud quality. If that does not make a female worth her weight in golden fleece, than nothing does. We hardly ever add to our foundation females, but Dori was too wonderful an opportunity to pass up, when I saw her at the Prestige Auction. The males in my progr... |

Just two months after I bought her dam at the Prestige Auction in 2009, Star of India was born. What a wonderful bonus to have gotten in my quest to buy her dam! From the outset, Star of India had a brilliant diamond-white fleece of incredible fineness -- and a tiny bindhi dot of fawn between her eyes. She has never failed to place at any show, but her first fleece won the blue ribbon among juvenile whites at the very tough AFCNA Continental Fleece Show in 2010.
Star of India has that lovely, compact boxy frame that I admire so much. She really is a perfect melding of her sire and dam, both of whom I now own. It was a no-brainer when her sire was available for sale! I still have India's 2011 fleece noodled and have taken samples. Her fiber disappears on my finger, indicating she is probably still a grade one.
I could easily retain Star of India for my own program but I do have both her sire and dam, and her dam produced a light brown full sister we named Great Day because, well, it was a great day! Great Day placed fifth at NAAS and was not only the youngest animal in her class, but was never tip shorn. She garnered very nice comments for being true to type and extremely fine in her very bright, character-rich fleece.
We sell her with a breeding to our own home bred and born five-time champion/four-time judge's choice male, Hidden Hill Peruvian Dually. We thought she caught with him last summer, but she appears open presently, so we will try again when we start breeding here. Dually's biggest halter wins were the 2009 AAA Futurity White Male Champion and the 2009 MAPACA White Male Champion and Judge's Choice. We are aiming for a nexus of the lasting fineness that India's sire offers with our densest and truly uniformly fleeced Dually. Just imagine that offspring being yours!
