    We owned Winchester Steel, a full Peruvian son of the great Gunsmoke, therefore a grandson of the great 4P Condor, in partnership with the Cottons of Suris of the Western Slope. Winchester has been one of the most prolific producers of gray that I think anyone could imagine. We have had only one non-gray result here, ever, when he was in our breeding program.

    Description

    When we set out to produce solid gray suris back in 2002, we retained our best elite light females and bought the very best of both gray females and males available on the market. Western Sunrise is the result of a light fawn home-grown color champion female and Winchester Steel, a full Peruvian son of Gunsmoke that we proudly co-own with Toni and Gary Cotton. That Sunny has never taken anything below second place is testament to her strong dam and sire lines -- both sire and dam have been Level Four or Five champions! The depth of pedigree on this young lady is amazing -- her lineage reads like a roster of the hall of fame for gray suris -- her paternal and maternal great-grandsires are 4P. Condor, 4P. Renzo, and 4P. Magnifico, respectively! Sunny has proven already that she is as excellent a foundation female as her dam and her granddam. We were so certain of her production capabilities that we actually sold her dam prior to when Sunny had her first cria -- after all, we own her granddam as well and we had a pretty good idea about this line. Sunny's debut as a mom was a stellar performance, and her bay black male cria is sired by our Adonis of PVA. She had copious quantities of milk for her son, and an excellent maternal instinct. We originally retained Sunny because we sold her dam, Aviva. Now, we are refocusing our breeding program and are prepared to sell our Peruvian gray genetics. Seeing as how several of the top finishing 2012 MAPACA Fleece Show black and gray blue ribbon and champion fleeces are directly from this line, we know that Sunny will be a welcome addition to any herd seeking top quality gray suris.
